The Superheroes of FACEtime Summer Camp

The Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center’s FACEtime program is designed to increase skill and confidence in the Fluency, Attitude and Communication Effectiveness of children and teens who stutter. During the week-long FACEtime Summer Camp in 2023,  participants addressed personal goals, participated in group therapy, practiced skills in real-life situations, and were encouraged to talk with peers in fun and interactive activities.

In an innovative collaboration with The Superhero Project, campers were interviewed about  who they are, their goals and interests, and how they want to positively impact the world.  The ways in which they want to help others were the foundation of their superhero missions and they conceptualized their superhero alter egos with The Superhero Project team. A global League of Extraordinary Artists designed the characters based on the campers’ visions and photos, and the exhibit’s posters are visual representations of their strength, courage and creativity. The dynamic and bold new heroes are as unique and incredible as the campers themselves!

This exhibit is presented with the generous support of Joe Conley.

In 2021, we also created "Team Talk Terrific" - a collective poster set for Summit ESC's T.A.L.K. educational program.

T.A.L.K. is an auditory-oral preschool classroom where children with hearing loss learn to listen and talk. T.A.L.K.’s goal is to educate children with hearing loss to listen, talk, and communicate effectively in their world. Children with mild to profound hearing losses using appropriate amplification are given access to spoken language through strong speech, language and auditory training focusing on individual needs, family concerns and involvement. Artwork designed by Taryn Cozzy.

A Note About the Exhibit

To preserve confidentiality, the title card for each poster indicates the child’s first initial and age only. “Created by” means that the interview questions were answered by the child. “Inspired by” means that the child is either non-verbal or too young to answer questions; in those cases, parents, grandparents or siblings answered the interview questions for our superheroes.
